MICHAEL J CROWTHER
I fell in love with guitars in my early teens and have over twenty years experience playing in a wide range of styles, from acoustic fingerstyle through to classical and electric rock and pop.
After completing my music degree at Kingston university, London, I decided that teaching guitar would be an ideal way to share my knowledge and skills.
I also offer additional tutoring and guidance in songwriting, composition and studio techniques.
All ages and abilities are welcome.
I am fully CRB checked as well as being a member of The Musicians Union (MU) and Registry of Guitar Tutors (RGT).

EXAMPLES OF PIECES
'Angie' was written in the early 1960s by guitar innovator Davey Graham and was covered extensively by many of the finger style players of that era. I've taken from versions by Bert Jansch and Paul Simon and improvised on the theme.
'Double thumb' is a technique used to keep a solid rhythm and constant bass. Used extensively in folk and blues finger picking it's also good for improvising on chords. This piece has the slightly unfortunate title 'Death Comes Creeping' It's an old blues from the early 20th century.
Classical guitar technique often involves variations of right hand finger patterns to play arpeggios. This is an 'Allegro' in A minor and uses; p i m i a, to create a constant semi quaver rhythm.
This piece is called 'Special Rider Blues' by early delta blues pioneer Skip James. It incorporates thumb bass techniques with syncopated melodic lines and slured blues phrasing.
